L’année d’admission apparait comme un bon indicateur du niveau et de la trajectoire des revenus médians des traitements et salaires (T&S) des immigrants au Canada :
Pour les immigrants arrivés pendant la période 1990 – 2010, les revenus des T&S sont similaires dans la première année de participation au marché du travail canadien (allant de 18 000 à 24 000 $ en $ constants de 2012);
The year-of-landing appears to predict the level and trajectory of median wage and salary (W&S) earnings of immigrants to Canada:
For immigrants who arrived in the 1990 to 2010 period, W&S earnings are similar in the first year of participation in the Canadian labour market (ranging between $18,000 and $24,000 in constant $2012);
For each year-of-landing cohort, the median W&S earnings increase in real terms due, at least in part, to productivity growth attributable to labour market experience in Canada; and
Median W&S earnings of a given year-of-landing cohort seldom catch up to the median W&S earnings of an earlier cohort.
Canada has admitted upwards of 200,000 permanent residents per year since the early 2000s. Their distribution within Canada is of major interest to academics, policy makers, settlement service organizations, and municipalities that take into consideration the number of annual arrivals to make operational and budget…
In this era of globalization, Canada’s increasingly diverse immigration flows have come to be understood not only as contributors to population growth, but also as engines of economic growth and social transformation. Most immigrants prefer to settle in the major metropolitan areas of Canada (Toronto,…
