Too Soon Or Not Enough?
Some say it’s too soon. Others say Canada had no place fighting a foreign war in the first place. But what’s not up for debate among members of Hamilton’s Afghan community is that their home country still has a long way to go toward achieving the stability most of its citizens — both at home, and abroad — crave.
Ten-Year Multiple-Entry Visa: Better Use of Government Resources and Easier Travel to Canada
Improvements to make it easier to visit Canada are coming soon, announced the Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism. A new ten-year multiple-entry visa will make applying more efficient for applicants and better use government resources.“More applications and higher expectations mean that Citizenship and Immigration Canada needs a more responsive and flexible processing system,” said Minister Kenney. “To achieve that, the Department is providing applicants and staff with the right tools to deliver on those expectations.”
Most Fraudulent Citizens Living Outside Canada: Minister
Most of the 1,800 people the feds believe obtained their citizenship fraudulently are Canadians of convenience who don’t even live here, according to Immigration Minister Jason Kenney. And the feds don’t expect many to object to the government’s move to revoke their citizenship. “Most of these people, we believe, have never really lived in Canada and are still overseas,” he said Wednesday. “We expect most of them will not (object), because they’re living overseas.”
Ottawa is moving to reduce the lengthy waiting times reuniting loved ones from seven years to one, the immigration minister vows. Jason Kenney said Canada is losing some of its best and brightest immigrants to other countries due to lengthy processing times. “We are losing a lot of bright people to Australia and other countries because they get a quick decision,” he told about 300 business people on Wednesday in downtown Toronto.
Georgia Restaurants Report Labor Shortages After Passage of Anti-Illegal Immigration Law
Georgia restaurants are reporting labor shortages following the passage of the state’s tough new immigration enforcement law, a new survey by the Georgia Restaurant Association shows. Nearly half of the 523 restaurateurs across the state who voluntarily participated in the electronic survey this month are having trouble finding workers, a summary of the survey results shows. That summary, however, doesn’t say how many pinned the labor shortages on Georgia’s new anti-illegal immigration law, also called House Bill 87. Of the respondents, more than three-quarters are located in the metro Atlanta area. Almost a third of those who took part in the survey gave additional feedback, and 91 percent of them said they were opposed to Georgia’s “immigration reform.”
Ottawa intends to revoke the citizenship of 1,800 people it believes obtained their status through fraudulent means, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney says. The decision to revoke citizenship is rare, and a large-scale crackdown such as this one appears to be unprecedented. Fewer than 70 citizenships have ever been revoked since the Citizenship Act was passed in 1947.
