Invitation to Attend
Provincial Settlement & Integration Forum – A Proactive Alberta

In the next decade, Alberta is estimated to face a labour shortage of 92,067 workers as detailed in the Alberta Labour Outlook Report released by Alberta Human Services in March 2012. Thus the attraction and retention of newcomers becomes increasingly essential to sustaining the future prosperity of Alberta’s economy, workforce and sustain the growth of its communities.

Alberta is the fourth largest immigrant-receiving province in Canada, averaging 25,087 newcomers annually according to the Alberta Immigration Progress Report in 2011. The number of newcomers to Alberta grew 58% in between 2006 to 2010 at an astounding rate of 11.5% per year. This consistent and gradual growth of newcomers prompts all sectors involved in Settlement and Integration to recognize that successful integration of newcomers is not the job of the Alberta government alone. Integration of newcomers contributing to Alberta’s economy, environment, and social and cultural life is a shared responsibility of all Albertans, organizations and sectors and should be approached proactively.

It is time to bring all sectors together to discuss collaborative integrated strategies to support the community and the newcomers. AAISA is hosting the First Provincial Settlement and Integration Forum in April 2013. The goal of this initiative is to encourage unrealized cross-sectorial connections and collaborations between the public, private and non-profit sectors across Alberta.
Participants will include key representatives of all sectors providing some level of settlement and integration in Alberta. Sectors will share successes and challenges in integration while exploring strategies of intentional cross-sectorial collaboration.

You are cordially invited to attend and represent your sector in the discussions. This one-day event will take place on Wednesday, April 17th, 2013 at the TELUS Spark Science Centre located in Calgary at 220 Saint Georges Drive Northeast Calgary, AB T2E 5T2. The registration fee is $100. Please visit www.aaisa or http://adobe.ly/XPzNRQ to register online.
