The Transnational Practices and Sense of Belonging of Recent Vietnamese Immigrants in France and Canada

This dissertation will be a comparative, multi-sited ethnography about the Vietnamese recent migrants in Vancouver and Paris. I will critically examine migrants’ engagement in local and transnational occupations (i.e., daily activities) and how these are impacted by the differential approaches to immigration in Canada and France, as well as Vietnam’s emigration and diaspora policies. Theoretically, I will study how students’ local and transnational occupations relate to their sense of belonging and connection to multiple spaces.
